Horizon Uptown Sustainability

Creating Lasting Value.

A truly sustainable development is one that has a lasting, positive impact on the way people live. It incorporates economic, social and environmental elements to create a place for people to live, work, learn, socialize, thrive and grow. Sustainable developments enrich the economy, respect the environment and stand the test of time.

Sustainability has been part of the Horizon Uptown vision from the beginning. The mixed-use community is part of the U.S. Green Building Council’s innovative LEED-Neighborhood Development Pilot Program and has been awarded a LEED certified plan status. Horizon Uptown will combine residential, commercial and retail uses in an urban format that emphasizes community cohesion, lifelong learning and recreational opportunities. This kind of "mixed-use" community makes getting to know your neighbors – and neighborhood businesses – a natural, enriching part of everyday life.

Horizon Uptown's safe, walkable community decreases everyday dependence on automobiles and encourage alternate forms of transportation.

All homes and commercial buildings will meet green building and energy-efficient standards, and environmentally sensitive development techniques will be practiced across the community.

In addition, a wide variety of community, educational, economic and technological initiatives are being planned. Community events, meeting rooms, business services, civic uses, recycling programs and a community portal are all part of the mix to make Horizon Uptown the first compact, mixed-use sustainable community in the city of Aurora.
