DENVER, Colo. – November 29, 2007 – Lend Lease has taken an important step toward the development of Horizon Uptown, a key regional economic development project in Aurora.
Lend Lease recently hired Cushman & Wakefield of Colorado, Inc. to market and sell commercial property at Horizon Uptown. The brokerage team includes Executive Director Candis Hewitt, Director Mitch Zatz and Director Jim Wonhof.
When it is complete in 2020, Horizon Uptown – 500 acres at the southwest corner of Interstate 70 and E-470 – will employ an estimated 11,000 people in up to 4 million square feet of commercial office and flex space. Lend Lease plans to break ground next spring.
“Our goal at Horizon Uptown is to create good jobs that help support a vibrant, sustainable community and benefit the entire region,” Horizon Project Director Greg Ochis said. “Cushman & Wakefield are the ideal partner for us because of their deep knowledge of the northeast market and strong local, national and international networks.”
Horizon Uptown is the first compact, mixed-use, sustainable community in the City of Aurora. In addition to a commercial component, Horizon Uptown will have approximately 1.3 million square feet of retail space (neighborhood, large format and lifestyle) and 3,800 residential units. Horizon Uptown is also among a select group of sustainable developments nationwide chosen by the U.S. Green Building Council to participate in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Neighborhood Development (LEED ND) Pilot Program. Projects will meet standards for urban planning, green construction, education and job opportunities, and transportation and technology initiatives.
“With a proven track record of more than 50 years of sustainable development, Lend Lease is the ideal firm to manage the Horizon Uptown development,” said Candis Hewitt, executive director of Cushman & Wakefield of Colorado, Inc. “This project will be a regional hub of the booming northeast market, which is anticipated to capture 30 percent of the future employment growth for the metropolitan area. Cushman & Wakefield is proud to partner with Lend Lease and we look forward to bringing new and existing industry into this green business development.”
Commercial office and flex parcels at Horizon will range from 2 acres to 80 acres. Cushman & Wakefield will initially target aerospace, defense, healthcare, education and professional service firms.
“The Horizon Uptown project is in an ideal location because it has an excellent transportation network, including interstate highways and Denver International Airport to support access to the site,” said Wendy Mitchell, president of the Aurora Economic Development Council. “Horizon’s proximity to major employment centers such as the Fitzsimons Life Sciences District and Buckley Air Force Base complements its ability to support employers who will target the aerospace and biosciences industries.”
